The First Tee

The non-for-profit organization “The First Tee” has recently caught my attention. After hitting a bucket of balls at Genesee Valley Golf Course; I came across “The First Tee” logo attached to the pro shop. I believe its great to see and hear young kids getting excited about golf. From what I have read off the “The First Tee” site, is that they are teaching children more of life’s lessons through the great sport of golf. I have always believed that the way you handle yourself on the golf course reflects how you handle yourself in life; and what better way to guide children towards a well balanced life than through golf.

    • The First Tee’s mission is to impact the the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life enhancing values through the game of golf

Wegmans Reusable Bags

Today at Wegmans grocery store here in Rochester, New York; I noticed the promotion of reusable grocery bags. By being a Wegmans Shopper Club Member, the bags were offered for .99 cents a piece. Rumor has it that these plastic bags, that are so freely given away when you purchase groceries, are tallying numbers into the billions. This mass consumption of plastic bags is hurting our environment as a whole; from killing animals that believe it is food instead of waste and the vast amount of oil used to produce the bags.
The idea is to be apart of the solution. By purchasing these reusable bags your one step closer to a cleaner environment for our future generations. Let me add that these bags can hold a mass amount of weight and there is no need to have 25 bags to carry everything. I had $50 worth of groceries, which include jugs of water, cranberry juice, and soda, and carrying it was a breeze. It evens out the weight of the groceries without that ripping feeling you get with plastic.
Below are a few facts on how this is impacting our environment.

  • Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute. Billions end up as litter each year.
  • According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. (Estimated cost to retailers is $4 billion)
  • In 2001, Ireland consumed 1.2 billion plastic bags, or 316 per person. An extremely successful plastic bag consumption tax, or PlasTax, introduced in 2002 reduced consumption by 90%. Approximately 18,000,000 liters of oil have been saved due to this reduced production. Governments around the world are considering implementing similar measures.

Earth @ Night

The picture below is a satellite image provided by NASA; capturing earths lights at night. First viewing this picture set a clear image of where cilivizaitions crowded themselves. NASA has become quite profound on their satellite imagery. All you Google ‘homepagers’, I suggest adding NASA’s images of the day; it wouldn’t hurt adding a little history and innovative technology to your lives.

Planet Earth

What could possibly be added to what the new Discovery Channel series “Planet Earth” has displayed. I find myself turning up the Sony Digital Surround Sound and dimming down the lighting; enjoying what these curageous photographers have captured throughout our planet.

The Discovery Channel airs Planet Earth:

The Masters

Zach Thomas defeats Tiger at Augusta!

The young Zack Johnson comes out on top at the 2007 Masters Tournament which hopefully came number two in his eyes; considering he also was blessed with a newborn baby boy; and perhaps in a close third place with turning the big 30 back in Febrauary. So who else would like to be known as a Masters Champion? If the title doesn’t do it for you, perhaps the lifetime acceptance to the PGA, or the even the prestige of the membership inside Augusta along with its professional taliored green jacket.

We’ll see how the putter treats me this season. My goal is to visit the range atleast an hour a day, as a I did last year; in return took many strokes off my game. There will be a score tally this year, so check back.
